Harry Harrison I was ashamedly very unaware of Budgie but I have now educated myself on all things Welsh 70ise rock. I think this album works so well for me because this was my first exposure to Budgie and it was a fine experience. There is nothing not to like about this album. Lovers of 70ies rock, look no further. Favorite track: Breadfan.

Emily Violet The latest instalment in metal's most underrated project. Every single cover hits and I can't recommend this enough. Favorite track: Melt The Ice Away - Bonus Track.

FDJ (Desert Psychlist) If you are a fan of 70's Welsh metallic warriors Budgie then this tribute to one of their most loved albums has got to be your next purchase. If however you thought Budgie was a bird people kept as a pet then still buy it and get yourselves educated.

Shayne D. Somewhat embarrassingly I’ve never bought any Budgie LP’s despite being aware of the band and their influence. Thanks to Pale Wizard Records I’ve now corrected that mistake. Cannot wait to hear this comp in its entirety, some awesome bands on this LP. Favorite track: Parents.

snedzuk First saw Budgie circa 1974 in Leith Town Hall - amazing underrated band and this tribute is incredible!

In June 1973, a little trio from Cardiff in Wales called Budgie released their third album 'Never Turn Your Back on a Friend'. Recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios, this album firmly cemented their legacy as a dynamic force to be reckoned with in the hard rock movement of the early seventies. With their music being covered by the likes of Van Halen, Iron Maiden and Metallica, it is clear that Budgie have left an enduring mark upon the music world as we know it.

'Never Turn Your Back on a Friend' built upon the hard rocking and progressive elements of their first two records, helped along nicely by the now legendary opening song 'Breadfan'.

Tragically in 2022, their lead singer, bassist and founding member Burke Shelley passed away at the age of 71. Now in 2023, exactly fifty years after it's original release, we pay tribute to this awesome album.

This is colossal. I’ve been enjoying these guys for years but this album is next level. They seemed to have found their stride & it’s a biggin’. I feel that they’re heading into the Groove/Rock Genre of Clutch but still carry that epic, larger-than-life sound you’d expect from Zeppelin or later era Soundgarden. Their sound is tighter than a fish’s ass (and that’s water tight) & whatever these guys are doing; I’m loving it. And…the vocals are so, so, so good! I’m excited for their next outing. Harry Harrison
